As a collector & poker player, not a fan

As a collector I'm not a fan. The inlays feel fairly generic & lack some of the artisitry that prior chips had. The D's recent offerings at least have a more interesting - albeit oddly designed - inlay. I also prefer LCV/SCV to RHC greatly so that's another strike against most of them. The Strat uses the SCV/LCV molds which I do like, and they use the Paulson Premium style which I also like - but the Premium style makes the mold nigh unreadable so it gets lost, and that makes me less of a fan. I at least like the colors on the OYO $5, the Strat $1, and the Sahara $1, but as a collector those are the only ones I find interesting. Well, I do like the Sahara $100...but that's a bit too expensive for my collection since I don't focus on $100's.

As a poker player I'm not a fan of the $1's because it's just a little harder to tell how many are in a stack if the spots are perpendicular to my view. I'm okay with that if they're used for fractionals, though, and the Strat $1 is ideal for harvesting and repurposing as a home 25c chip.

From a corporate perspective, however, these are fantastic designs. As you point out, Dick, they give the essential information, and the name is nice and easy to read. The denominations are easy to read for the patrons, and the spots are easy to read for the dealers, cashiers, and the eyes-in-the-sky. And it looks like for the most part they're simpler spot patterns so they're cost-effective (although i have to assume the Paulson Premium varieties cost exactly that, so I'm not sure about the use of it for a run-of-the-mill $5 chip at the Strat). Additionally, the use of the RHC mold allows for more advertising of special events if the casinos want to do that w/o necessarily having to resort to the giant inlay size. As tools, these are exactly what you'd expect them to be - useful for the task, and only as expensive as they need to be (save for the Strat's).

So yeah, as a collector and poker player, generally not a fan. As a corporate tool...err, corporate suit, the tools are great.
