I have two rooms at my home housing my Chip and Gaming Collectibles Collection - my downstairs Office and Chip Room and my upstairs Museum. I have been trying to expand but have run into resistance from my wife Nancy for several years. Well that has changed and I acquired a little more display area for my collections. We went on a trip to North Carolina last week and found some really neat items that finally allowed me to expand to the upstairs foyer just outside of my Museum.
At the first Antique shop we went into in Greensboro, NC we spotted a fabulous unique homemade old Carpenter's Chest that dated back to the 1860s which we both really loved !! The craftsmanship and the design of this Tool Chest was really something. Four old squares came with the chest and they fit in a custom made rack in the interior of the chest. After haggling a little with the owner the chest ended up in the van on it's way back to Oak Orchard. In honor of the carpenter who built the chest I have put on display in the chest only items that are made of wood. Many of these items are also handmade - just like the chest.
Later on I came across a really beautiful inlaid Abalone Shell Chest in another Antique Mall that was on sale for 60% off (the Mall had been sold and everything had to go.) I just love old boxes, bins and display cases of all sorts - I can't resist buying them. I find something appropriate to display in this box - probably some old ivory and mother of pearl chips.
Finally at another Antique store I found an interesting fold up 4 shelf display case. I plan on making some modifications to this display case and using it at next years Convention to display some items at my Table.
This turned out to be a great trip and I got to expand my Museum display area.
