Thanks guys. The direct sunlight scenario definitely seems plausible. It appears though, that the center on my chip was the only area affected by sunlight rather than the entire surface like in the example provided by Dick Bartley. Just for the heck of it I think I'll do a little experimentation. I have a few more, so I'll take one and expose it to direct sunlight then monitor its progress.
