BK was my first, sorta
In Response To: Impossible 39c Whopper ()

I have a question about that first photo. I take it that's the original Burger King in Miami. Does "self service" just mean "take out"?

When I was a kid, my dad would sometimes stop at A&W when we were heading up north. But once I was old enough to buy my own, there were only two fast food places in my city: Burger King, and Burger Chef. BK was (and still is) my favorite quick burger place in the area. This was circa 1973 - we didn't have McDonald's yet in Detroit's east suburbs. I currently live in a city that has no fast food restaurants, by law.

In college, I truly gravitated toward fast food. My first Arby's, McDonald's, and Arthur Treacher's all were enjoyed in 1975 at Michigan State, and my first KFC purchase was at a Scott's Chicken Villa in Ontario, Canada. I was never a pizza eater, so these other places were my go-to places.

When I am in Florida, I always try to go to Chik-fil-A, and I always make a visit to In-and-Out Burger when I am in SoCal.
