NEW COLLECTORS CORNER

OVER THE YEARS OF MY COLLECTING, SOMETIME AFTER I FELT I HAD MY COLLECTION PRIORITIES IN LINE. I WISHED I HAD A MENTOR OR SOMEONE CLOSER TO ME THAN AN OCCASIONAL TRADING PARTNER. AT THIS TIME I STILL DID NOT KNOW WHAT THAT ACTUALLY WAS. NOT TO LONG AGO OUR CLUB STARTED A MENTOR PROGRAM AS WELL AS PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN. I THINK THIS IS WONDERFUL AND ENCOURAGE NEW COLLECTORS/MEMBERS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS. HOWEVER; MORE CAN BE DONE. WITH THIS THOUGHT IN MIND I AM GOING TO TRY TO COVER THESE SUBJECTS WITH EACH PAGE(S) OF THE DAY I DISPLAY. I AM GOING TO TRY TO REMEMBER SOME OF THE QUESTIONS, QUERIES I HAD MADE, MISTAKES I MADE (TO HELP YOU THE NEW COLLECTOR) SO YOU MAY NOT HAVE TO MAKE THEM. AND THEN I WILL TRY TO ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS AND GIVE SOME EXAMPLES OF THINGS NOT TO DO, ETC. PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU CAN REACH OUT TO ME ON ANY SUBJECT CONCERNING CHIP COLLECTING, ANY TIME. SINCERELY;
REGGIE

A GUEST AUTHOR’s HARVEST STORY

FANTASY SPRINGS INDIO, CA

By: Steve Gobel

Got the Free slot play card... Went to the Pai Gow table first. Surprise, won the first hand at $15. Bigger surprise, they refused to pay me!
Something about Tiger 9 that I'd never heard of. If the dealer's hand is Pai Gowed, and they have a 9 to put in the two card hand, then all bets are a push. Say What! That sounds like 3 card monte on the street corner. Oh, I've got a blue Chicago so I win. I asked them to show me where that rule is posted. Nowhere, it's just part of the game. How the hell am I supposed to know that? Well there is the Tiger 9 bet on the layout just above the Fortune bet. Fine, Wonderful. Where does it say that a side bet circle on the layout changes the play of the game? You've got a computer screen with the Fortune Bonus Payouts listed, along with the Progressive payouts, but no mention of the payout for the Tiger 9 bet. "oh, it's 30 to 1" How would I know that? Pit boss went to her podium and got a little rules card to give to me. A bit late now. Title of the game on the computer is Progressive Pai Gow Poker. It does not say Tiger 9 Pai Gow poker. Nowhere is there any mention of it. The dealer did not inform me of it. PAY MY WINNING HAND! "Sorry I can't, that's the way the game is played" says the pit boss, after admitting that there must be 50 different versions of Pai Gow Poker,(really?), and that it's the players responsibility to ask if they don't understand the game. The dealer is telling me that it's no different than 3 card poker where if the dealer doesn't have an opening hand there are no payoffs. Ok but it says that right on the layout. This whole Tiger 9 thing is just a way for the casino to weasel out of paying winning hands when the dealer has a cruddy hand. It's lower and more underhanded than going from 3 to 2 to 6 to 5 for a blackjack. I grabbed my chips and ran out of this clip joint. So, no TITO from here. I wouldn't give these corksoakers 99cents of my money to get one!

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

BOOMTOWN CASINO HARVEY, LA

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

”ON A RAINY NIGHT IN LOUISIANA” YOU MAY REMEMBER MY STORY ABOUT THE TREASURE CHEST CASINO IN KENNER, LA. IF YOU DO THEN YOU MAY RECALL WE WERE HEADED TO HARVEY, LOUISIANA FROM THERE. (ACTUALLY WE MEANT TO STOP AT HARRAH’S IN NEW ORLEANS, BUT IT WAS RAINING TOO HARD) AFTER WE MADE IT ACROSS THE BRIDGE TO HARVEY AND CHECKED IN TO OUR MOTEL WE NOTICED THAT RAIN WAS SUBSIDING A LITTLE. BTW EVEN THOUGH THIS CASINO IS IN HARVEY, LA THE CHIP GUIDE HAS IT DOWN AS BOOMTOWN CASINO NEW ORLEANS. IT WAS A FEW HOURS BEFORE OUR DINNER TIME, SO WE DECIDE TO DRIVE OVER TO THE BOOMTOWN CASINO, AND GAMBLE A LITTLE BEFORE HAVING OUR EVENING MEAL; WHEN WE GOT THERE WE FOUND A GREAT PARKING SPOT VERY CLOSE TO THE CASINO ENTRANCE. INSIDE WE FOUND A VERY OPULENT AND LUXURIOUSLY DECORATED CASINO. SO I HEADED UPSTAIRS TO THE POKER ROOM AND NANCY HEADED FOR HER FAVORITE SLOTS. THE POKER ROOM WAS ON THE SECOND FLOOR WITH WINDOWS SO YOU COULD LOOK OUT ACROSS THE CASINO.
I WAS NOT DOING VERY GOOD AT HOLDEM, OTHER THAN DOING MY HARVEST. SO, WHEN NANCY CAME UP TO CHECK ON ME AND ASK IF I WAS HUNGRY YET, I SAID YES. WE THEN WENT LOOKING FOR A RESTAURANT, AND WERE TOLD BY A CONCIERGE THAT THEY HAVE ONE OF THE BEST AND ONE OF THE CHEAPEST THAT WE WILL FIND IN THIS AREA. I DO NOT REMEMBER THE NAME OF IT, BUT IT WAS EVER BIT AS GOOD THE YOUNG LADY SAID IT WOULD BE. THE CHEF CAME OUT AND TALKED TO US…A COUPLE OF TIMES; IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. WE BOTH HAD THE “RED SNAPPER” THIS IS THE GULF OF MEXICO RED SNAPPER, NOT THE WEST COAST VARIETY.
WE LEFT BOOMTOWN CASINO IN HARVEY; FULL AND GLAD WE CAME TO THIS VERY FINE CASINO. I DID GET ENOUGH CHIPS FOR MY TRADERS AND COLLECTION…REGGIE
