City name on California chips
In Response To: Nice haul.... ()

Hi, Charles (and anyone else interested) - - -

Yeah, I heard that tale about "every casino chip must state the city in which the casino is located" too. And guess what? NOT SO!!

There are any number of California chips that do not give this information (might be a good Dick Bartley chip posting subject) - San Manuel current issue, just shows the Indian logo; Capitol Casino (cardroom, not Indian) in Sacramento just shows the Capitol Building; those little Chickens on the Ranch; Viejas current series (CG 210811), and a bunch more. Perhaps current logic is, most people have access to computers, and casino websites are easy to pull up?

Another recent change has been discovered by Raulin Mendonca - it seems the CA Department of Justice visits casinos that change their name, go out of business, or issue a new set of chips, and takes the old chips away. The old law, or at least the story, was that a casino owner was free to do what he wanted with his old chips - keep them, sell them to others, etc. In other words, California is acting more like Nevada as to destruction of obsolete chips.
