Leon Sarao a veteran Fourth Degree K of C, was working at the Taj Mahal Casino since they opened in the office of the Casino Manager - distributes and make rounds to all department heads distributing printouts of the last day and what was the coming and going for the day!
On one occasion, he sat down with me in the break room and started asking questions - in short we became good and acquainted friends after a while he asked me if I want to join the Knight of Columbus, with pamphlets, photos and different program they do for the community.
Before long I signed up for membership - to complete the process to the Fourth Degree - sort of "initiation". After a lengthy and hours of discussions I was into the first degree - what the heck might as well go through all and finish as a full fledged KofC.
My first test was thing of something to raise money -fund raising.
My HS experience became useful - proud to "brag" that we 7 others boys we help fund raised money for a new Parish - in Tacloban City, Leyte. Run by the Jesuits from Taiwan -Fr. Fong and Fr Chang -carolings on Christmas, birthday carolings to selected rich and super rich town folks and family - works perfectly well in the "8 Boys" fun. You can Google Sacred Heat College, Tacloban City, Leyte see what it is today. Both Fr. Fong & Fr. Chang visited my mother at the Funeral Parlor - looking for me to "transfer your mom" to the Sacred Church was there message before I got left NYC. Which I did. They are both Monsignors now.
My youngest brother who retired from Worcester U this school year - as Professor Emeritus live with his wife in MS.
While in the process - he authorized me to think "fund raising project", there were myriads of projects - the ground for the project church was there, as a chip collector my first thought was to make chips to sell to the NJ KofC chapters, then to the other states and other countries which I know in the Philippines has KofC too.
During this time - the chips from St. Nic (Atlantic City, NJ)and the Holy Redeemer (Las Vegas, NV) came handy. These chips were made by Pualson, ordered thru their Atlantic city office, as you can see some info on the page above.
