I am a horse racing fan and have no stake in the outcome of steward's decision. Folks---that is a DQ every day of the week. You cannot cross the path of another horse until you are clear, and it was clear that Maximum Security was not clear. I had the #1, and he was obviously interfered with, MS swerved in front of him and the jockey had to check the horse. That is a disqualification. That being said, I was actually surprised to see the DQ, as I was watching it live my reaction was I know this is a DQ but they will NEVER do it here, not in the Derby, and not against a horse that was plainly the best. Kudos to the Stewards for having the integrity to make the right call. It is an unpopular decision, but it the correct decision. If you have a rule, it needs to be applied fairly and correctly. Either that, or don't have the rule at all.
You will get a little leeway at the beginning of a race, but once positions are established and a horse swerves over like that and disturbs another horse, it is a DQ.
