Where I work (which is part of the National Health Service in the UK) we have an annual programme for staff to support local charities and good causes as well as looking to ensure their own health and wellbeing is maintained.
As part of this year's programme, I am taking part in a 12k (8 miles approx.) charity walk on the 19th May in support of the Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford (where I work). You can read more of the great work that Farleigh do at this link
https://www.farleighhospice.org/our-organisation
Anyway, I am hoping to raise funds for Farleigh through participating in their Walk For Life next month and thought I would throw open the challenge to friends (and anyone else for that matter ) to sponsor me on the walk and at the same time maybe win some chips. So the deal is basically this - sponsor me for at least $10 and I will add a chip to the 'pool'. You have to guess how long it will take me to walk the 12k. You can choose which chip you would like added to the pool, but if you choose a chip that is already in the pool then I will select the chip that gets added. To be clear ALL CASH DONATIONS GO TO THE CHARITY. I am adding the chips to the pool from those in the scans below and take no cash from the pool. I will also cover shipping charges anywhere in the world.
Specific rules:
1) You have to paypal me $10 (or more if you wish) to jdskinner123@yahoo.co.uk . When you send the paypal (friends and family please to ensure as much as possible is received to send to Farleigh Hospice) you must put in the message the chip you would like added to the pool and your guess for my time (hours, minutes, seconds) to complete the walk.
2) All chips selected will be added to the pool. If more than one person chooses a chip I will add a different chip of my choice to the pool
3) All donations will be passed to Farleigh Hospice alongside other sponsorship that I get from friends and family who are not chip collectors (yes, some people do not collect chips. Strange!). No cash will go to me or to the winner of the pool.
4) I will cover the shipping costs to you.
5) The closest time to my actual finish time will win the whole pool of chips. You will not win any cash (that is all going to the charity). This is a winner takes all competition.
6) For info, according to my iPhone my average walking speed on a walk of 1 hour is around 2.7 mph. The course is countryside and roads and relatively flat. I reckon that I will take just under 3 hours but I very rarely walk more than 90 mins in one go so I could start to flag. I don't intend to rush, just take my time with my work colleagues - if they get too competitive then I will just see them at the finish line I will definitely finish - even if I suffer some sort of injury I will just come back when I can to finish (which could mean a very long time of course!).
7) I am happy to answer any other questions.
8) Feel free to reply to this message to state that you are in. But you don't have to. I will publish the entrants and times selected a couple of times up until the date of the walk. I will only publish the list of chips in the pool when the competition closes.
9) Entrants are permitted until 6pm UK time on 18th May (the day before the competition) (that's 10am Pacific, 1pm Eastern I think).
10) Feel free to ask any questions. My decision on any queries will be final. I will not enter myself (so no chance of me winning the chips!)
Good luck.
Oh and just to add, if anyone wants to sponsor me but not take part in the pool, that is absolutely fine too
