times when I went to Quito, Ecuador, to give lectures and stayed in the Hotel as well. That was > 20 years ago. They were using US$ chips as it was a tourist Hotel in front of the "La Plaza Colon" (I think that was the name) which would fill up with vendors and local artists on the weekends. Beautiful art. Sorry for the "extra info", could not help myself. Too bad chips were just for playing back then.
