i think it was around 1996/97 and i was playing dice at the sahara. when i walked away from the table i noticed they were putting new chips in the racks, one table at a time, in a blackjack pit. i only collected $1 chips at the time, with no concern for condition, variants, etc. but i thought the new chips looked great. i left with a new, never put in play $100 chip in my pocket with every intention of cashing it in. i eventually got more serious about collecting and it never made it back to the cage. im glad i kept it, i don't know if many uncirculated examples exist. i just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
