Collect what you can afford. What do you want to do with the collection? Display etc. What interests you? History, you were there, you won there, etc.

2- history, who owned it, why it is famous, stories of, etc.
3- have I been there, this is how I started.
4- Mostly NV under $5, AC, Saratoga. But I have lots of others though.
