Amargosa Saloon, Lathrop Wells

Amargosa Valley was once called Lathrop Wells. Why they changed it I can't say (people just liked it
better that way). Anyway, all these pictures are from when it was Lathrop Wells. I have no idea who
Nevada Joe was-I thought maybe Conforte but probably not. It's now Area 51. I always liked the
Amargosa Saloon, it was the only place with a gaming token. You could buy them struck in silver in
the bar. The Coach House bar was there previously, I think in the same location. It's mentioned
several times in the book, "Nye County Brothel Wars" a great book about all the stuff that went on
in the late 70s. One of the postcards shows the old Shamrock cathouse with all the security. It was
there for years. The postcard showing the bar next to the Union gas station was across the hiway.
I guess it was called Lathrop Wells Station but I never saw a sign on it. It was a neat old place
built from railroad ties. (Tonopah and Tidewater maybe?). It's now Fort Amargosa C-store.
Anyway there's a lot of history for just a wide spot in the road. Next: Beatty.
