the NEW casino. Sorry, none available at this end. Here is the story as I know it - as I made great efforts to get some!
The Grand Opening $5 chips were handed out, in Airtites, to the first hundred (or so) people who attended the Grand Opening Night at the new building located on Century Boulevard (maybe those who were in or joined the Player's Club). They were valid for bets, of course, but most everyone kept them as Souvenirs. A second give-away occurred on Washington's Birthday of 2017 (February something). Again, handed out to only a select few, maybe awarded at the tables by the Floorman.
I learned of the giveaway at our southern California club meeting the day of (or after) Washington's and drove down to the casino the next morning. I was able to obtain a very small number from the Cage Manager - a few that had been played and lost. Think it was three or four. The Manager suggested I return in a couple of days to see if they had gotten any more back in. Needless to say, when I returned - nobody had any, and I've never seen one played at the tables since - not that I make it a habit to go to Hollywood Park every day to inspect.
Sold my extras very soon after getting them, after keeping one for Collector Numero Uno of course. Once in a very long time, one seems to pop up on eBay, but at a highly inflated price of about $50.
This unfortunately is an example of Contrived Scarcity, which has been repeated recently with many of the Year of the Dog Chips around California and, more recently, Year of the Pig. I've been told of numerous issues that were handed out or put on tables for just a day or so, and simply vanished from the casino floors around our state.
Of a $25 Raise Your Expectations Chip, I know absolutely nothing.
