Ahoy - All Wet Chip Collectors !!
Shown below is a chip I picked up on a cruise to Alaska on the Cunard Princess in August of 1988. This chip is special to me because I got it on the "ONE and ONLY" Cruise I have ever been on. This chip was a souvenir of the Alaskan cruise - I did not actually start collecting Chips until four years later in May of 1992. I played Roulette ever night on the seven day cruise, but never thought about taking a Roulette chip - how things have changed !! If I remember correctly they did not have $1 chips but used $1 tokens on the table games. If they had $1 Chips I probably would have taken one of them instead of the $5 Chip. I don't think I have a $1 Token laying around but I will keep an eye out for it - you never know what you might find in the Birl Hoard !!
The chip has been housed in my "Chip Mold" Collection for many years as an example of the "Skier" Mold. I originally tried to get examples of ALL the different Molds on $5.00 chips. I am now in the process of updating my collection of various Molds and I am trying to get ALL the Molds represented on Non-Denominational Chips which will fit better in with my other Collections that are generally Non-Denominational item, i.e. Roulette Chips, Illegals, NCVs, Manufacturer's Samples, Poker Chips, etc.
I talked to A.J. Giametta (who has a large Wet Chip collection) about this chip and he said he had never seen this chip and it might be quite unusual (Rare).
So, do any of you Wet Chip Collectors have this chip or have you ever seen one ??
This chip might turn out to be kinda valuable - but I am hanging on to it as a pure "Souvenir" of my "ONE and ONLY" cruise from over 30 years ago !!
Take care,
