Re: Not bone. Biascut Ivory. Zoom in; see horizont

Growing up whenever my family had flank steak my father would always say that he cut the steak “on the bias”. I always took that to mean at a 45° angle.

I use a 2x4 piece of wood to describe how ivory chip blanks are cut. American ivory chips are cut from a tusk in the same manner I would cut a 3x4 on my chop saw. This produces end grain chips.

The chip I referenced as being fake was cut as I would cut a 2x4 with my table saw. This produces flat grain chips

I believe I’ve found some flat grain chips ad plaques in Europe.

The fake chip design is that of an American chip. The cut of the ivory is wrong.

Also it is laser cut. It is not hand carved. I hand carved line ends in a hair edge as the knife leaves the surface. Also hand carving Is never perfect

Rings were made on a lathe. The ring on the fake was made by the laser. Ring not nearly as sharpe as a real chip should be

Each of the above could be tricky to catch. However looking at the whole chip, it is obvious.

Lastly, I’ve explained this more than once before
