There were Carl's Clubs (or some similar name) in San Diego and Indio, but Jay Pike thought that this particular Carl's with L's mold, came from Emeryville or close vicinity. I don't want to "put words" into Jay's explanation to me, perhaps you could contact him directly to (a) confirm that my recollection is correct and (b) see if he has any more recent information on the source. Again, as I recall, a small quantity of the chips, in different colors, turned up somewhere in the Bay Area.
