I thought it was a "M" because the line (bar) under a letter is often used to show what is the bottom of the letter, to clear up any confusion as to the true number or letter, like here with the 6 and 9 on these Agua Caliente chips:

So for me the line or bar under the letter, here, makes it an "M":
