I was thinking that the CCA could use this idea that has worked well for the not for profit that I co-founded.
Each year Locust Projects asks 100 artists to donate a piece of artwork for a one night art show. We sell only 100 tickets to attend the show and each ticket holder is entitled to a work on the wall. The trick to make it fun... is that all the tickets are put into a bowl, mixed up and then randomly drawn.
The first ticket out has first choice at anything in the show. The second has anything less the first one that was picked... it goes on till every ticket
is drawn and all the artworks have owners. Luck plays a big part in what you are able to choose, but most people are happy to be able to support
an organization they value regardless of their pick. Locust sells our tickets for $650 now days so it is a nice fundraiser. We also have light food and a DJ.
I was thinking that the CCA could do a similar idea but tweak it to fit. We could ask for 100 chip donations with a minimum value of maybe $100 per chip. Then we have an online catalogue and also display them for a night event where we have sold tickets to attend the event, every ticket holder leaves with a chip. If you can get 100 tickets sold at $100 it would be a nice chunk of change for the CCA.
This kind of event takes the focus off the commercial aspect of the hobby... the buying selling and bidding against each other. I think a lot people have
valuable chips in their collection that they don't particularly care for anymore for one reason or another. Also estates could make larger donations toward an event like this and get full tax deductible benefits for the donation.
Locust uses the Submittable platform so all of our potential donations are vetted by us online before hand and we only accepted what we think will work.
Just an idea to ponder...
This link below is to one we did some years ago, it shows how it works...
