Re: Casino Chips / Cards / Dice
In Response To: Casino Chips / Cards / Dice ()

First of all; welcome to the site, second of all, thank you for the nice compliments to the people on this board. This board focuses mainly on casino chips; but like you noticed, most of everyone collects a little something more than that.

I would personally suggest a couple of things:

1. Take pictures. Words can describe something to a point, but the pictures give a better story. There are a number of places to post images for free or you could also send them by email per someones request.

2. Separate. Even though all the items are casino related, breaking them into different categories may also help give a better break down of what you have. So for example:
A. Casino chips per state and/or country
B. Dice
C. Cards
D. etc.
by breaking these up, it will be easier for someone to look at that category only and give you a better idea of what you have. Also, with chips, you may need to break them down into smaller groups as well (denomination, NCV, roulette...)

3. Make sure to get multiple points of view. I personally only collect items from Nevada so my advice on other items would be useless. Ask the person what they specialize in and go from there.

4. Personal. Do you have items that have special meaning to you? If so, you may want to keep a small collection for yourself and not include it in the other items.

5. History. At the top of the forum page is a few links to other areas of the site, and the MOGH (Museum of Gaming History) is one that you may want to consider as well. I am not sure exactly what items they would like, but I imagine you may have a few things that would be nice to save for others to view at a later date. I am fascinated with the different paperwork that goes into gaming such as: casino openings, chip supplies, management change...there is a history here that some do not always get to see.

6. Links. Like I said in the previous point, there are links at the top of the forum and the 'The Strike Point' is a good one for your Silver Strikes. The 'Chip Guide' is my favorite because of all the information there. You can do a lot of research on your items but do not expect a price guide. If you become a member of the CC>CC (link as well), you can post your items on the site for free for your collection, want list or items to sell.

So figure out exactly what you want to do and I know that multiple people will help you where they can; and again, welcome to the forum.
