Bobby Darin was born Walden Robert Cassetto in May of 1937, about a month before this chip collector was born. Darin died in 1973. He wrote a number of pop songs; his "Splish Splash" was #1 on the Hit Parade in 1958, followed by "Dream Lover" which was #2 in 1959.
In June 1959, Darin’s manager had secured him an opening with George Burns at the Las Vegas Sahara Club. Burns, by then a famous comedian of radio and TV fame with wife Gracie Allen, hired Darin sight unseen, impressed with what he had heard of Darin’s singing. *
I was unable to find which casino he first performed at but could have been Sahara, or possibly Desert Inn where I believe he had a lounge act.
