Reggie,
I really appreciate your posting. I just passed on the news to Monte and Kay Schuff. They are very close friends of Ed and Patty and had not heard the news.
They actually introduced me to Ed about 15 years ago, when he was building Post Offices in Montana. He started collecting Montana chips and had approached me at the previous year's Convention (when I did not know him) about purchasing some of his Montana chips. I did not collect Montana Chips; but, I had a few beautiful 25c chips from the Stagecoach Inn in West Yellowstone, MT at a price of $10 each, which he thought was too expensive.
The night before the next year's Convention, Monte invited me up to his hotel room to meet the Norris couple and we had a nice meet and greet. The next morning, Ed arrived at my table, slapped down a $10 bill and said he would like to buy the 25c Stagecoach Inn chip. I told him I was selling the chip for $20; but because he was a friend of Monte, and I had had such a nice time with him and his wife, I would honor the $10 price. I dug out one chip from a stack of the 10 chips I had (the story of my acquisition of these chips is for another time) and handed it to Ed. He looked at it and handed it back, saying, "I don't want a $25 chip, I want the 25c chip!" I looked at the chip and sure enough, I had an error chip, with 25c on the inlay on one side and $25 on the inlay on the other side. All the remaining chips were 25c on both sides.
THANK-YOU ED and "Rest In Peace"
