I need to apologize to everyone regarding our days on the road. Fred informed me I had the number wrong and I was probably messing everyone up!! SORRY, We are at day 23 update. I will try and be more diligent.

Before we left Cheyenne, we took a city tour. A little-known fact about Cheyenne it’s home to the Union Pacific Railway. As a result of the railroad the town grew in size and eventually was named as the capital of Wyoming. In 1867 Fort Russell was completed and in 1947 it became an Air Force Base. The name had changed to F. E. Warren Air Force Base in honor of the first Governor of the state. It is the oldest continuously active military installation within the Air Force. It is an air force base without a runway. It is a strategic missile base.

One of the major events in Cheyenne is the Cheyenne Frontier Days. This began as a result of several of the more influential men in Cheyenne wanting to have an event that would rival the Greely Potato Day Festival. (No idea what that was about). Anyway according to our guide it is the world’s largest rodeo. As an FYI when we went to Calgary we were told that was the world’s largest rodeo. Suffice it to say they are both pretty big events.

Our tour of the city included the train depot that was built back in the 1800s and the Cheyenne Frontier Days Museum. Both were very interesting. As you can see Fred and I were very involved in both museums. An interesting fact about the railroads and the depot area. We went down a street that was the “red light district”. When a railroad worker went to visit a lady of the evening, they took their red light with them. As each worker had their own red light and they would leave it outside of house they were visiting. That way if that person was needed they could be found based on their particular red light. Hence the red-light district.

On our travels out of Cheyenne to Evanston Wyoming we stopped at the Wyoming Territorial Prison. You ask yourself what is so important about that prison? It is the only prison that housed Butch Cassidy. The prison is very interesting and they have a whole display dedicated to Butch. While we did not visit Butch’s gravesite we were able to get a photo of his gravesite which is part of the display. We made the decision not to visit the Wyoming Frontier Prison Museum. This museum houses an actual gas chamber that you can get locked in and have your picture taken. Both of us thought it was really kind of eerie and decided against that museum.

One thing we can definitely tell you. If you ever find yourself in need of the witness protection program, you can get into a small town in Wyoming and you will never be found!
