I won lot #424 in their recent auction of gambling items. The description was:
"Three Dunes Hotel Faro Chips, Las Vegas Nevada. ca. 1950. Black, pink and orange. Excellent. "
OK. So the Dunes didn't open until 1955.
Anyway....the yellow/gold and orange faro chips are fairly common. I was excited to see two new colors that I've never seen before (black and pink.) They sent me a better picture of the chips which I've attached. I still don't know which one they thought was pink but clearly neither was. So I went ahead and bid anyway just to get the black chip as I've never seen one before. I won the auction for $80. the total was about $112 with buyer's premium and shipping.
So the chips arrived yesterday and I immediately noticed that the black chip is not from the Dunes but is a generic chip with the same FARO typeface as the real Dunes chips. I've also attached a photo I made that shows mold more clearly. I wrote to P&P and just got a reply that I could not return the chips because I had seen their photo and that was that.
I don't plan to accept their decision. My first step is to publicize their unethical practice.
First photo is from P&P. Second photo I took.
