Back about 18 years ago, I lived in Staten Island, and commuted to Manhatten. Several times a week, whenever I used the ferry and subway, the same guy used to hit me up in the morning. Using the old "I haven't eaten, and don't have any money. Can you spare some change?" routine. One morning on my way in, I bought an extra cream cheese bagel and an apple. When the guy approached, I handed it to him. Doesn't end the way you thought it would. He told me, in a tremulous voice, "God bless you, sir."
