I was planning to sell this rare early Sahara,Las Vegas, CANCELLED $5 casino chip. I figured (see below) the value was $1650. What do you think? You can give me an idea of what you think about the two guides (overpriced?) and the 30% rule.
The Chip Rack (XV 2013) gives it (N4027) a Z2 rating ($1100 to $1600), average use condition, uncanceled.
Campiglia’s Official US Casino Chip Price Guide (4th ed., 2009) gives it a much higher value. It speaks of 30% for cancelled chips, but more if rare. The Sahara chip is R9 (4-7 survivors known;“exceedingly rare”). It lists for $5500 new, which mine is except for the cancellation. ($2500 average, $4250 SU). Only 30% of $5500 is $1650.
The chip is the only one I have. It was owned as a sample by the last President of H C Edwards. He sold it (and others) to me just before he left NYC for the West Coast. Besides the cancellations (one hole, 3 notches), it is in mint condition, same on both sides.
