Penthouse Chip

Hi all, long time since I have posted, but I am always lurking! I read the thread on the Playboy and Penthouse chips, and it motivated me to inquire about this chip again, maybe a newer member can shed some light on it.

I acquired 2 of these chips as part of a pretty large collection I purchased over 15 years ago. The collection belonged to a retired dentist who had left the NY area and headed south.
He passed away, but left behind a large binder full of $1 and $5 chips from Las Vegas and Caribbean casinos he had visited. From the collection I was able to determine that he was actively
collecting from about 1958-1980, and there were some real beauties in that binder. I found the collection in an antiques shop in the Berkshires---go figure. They (the dentist's family and the shop owners) had no idea of the worth, I could have had the whole binder for the $50 they were asking for it, I felt guilty and wrote them a check for $750. I kept most of the Vegas stuff, and sold off the rest and all the Caribbean chips for over $15,000. To date it is easily my best find!

The Penthouse chips didn't fit with the rest of the collection. I spend a considerable amount of time digging around trying to find out where they came from. The denomination--$1---makes it highly unlikely they were tied to any European Penthouse casino. I exchanged several emails with a long-timer in the Penthouse corporate offices who told me that he thought they were tied to a proposed Penthouse casino in New Jersey. The chips did exhibit signs of a fair amount of table play, and that makes me skeptical. As the original collector spent a lot of time in the Caribbean, my guess is it came from there somewhere.

I came up empty, but who knows? Maybe someone has one or has seen one somewhere and can shed light on my little mystery HHR $1 Penthouse chip.

I only have this one left, and it is not for sale. The other went to my old penpal----Greg Susong. He had mentioned that he liked the chip, and he helped me when I got started collecting, so I just sent him the other one out of the blue. He was so thankful. That guy was a good egg...
