The fact that the Galveston Turf opened some 10 years before the chips is enough proof for me that the c&s is not Galveston. If the club opened in 1933, I would believe there was a very good possibility the c&s was from Galveston.
About 10 to 12 years ago I had the two chips below listed as unknown. I believed they were from the Casino de Puerto Rico. It was hard convincing the Puerto Rican mavens of this fact. I pointed out the the Casiho opened the same year the chips were made. I always believed that fancy c&s are ordered when a casino opens. Later orders are usually cheaper chips (note that the Casino de Puerto Rico ordered hot stamps in subsequent orders). Also, usually only a fairly large operation would order such chips. Luckily for me a matchbook showed up to prove the attribution
Regarding the Turf, how many TURFs were there that also ran casino games. David S said he has a brown non-dem chip. I think that indicates (along with my black non-denom) that there was a roulette wheel. Wouldn’t that eliminate 90% or more? They are such nice chips. It’s a shame they sit as unknowns
