The next Museum of Gaming History (MoGH) Exhibit will be at the Nevada State Museum (NSM), located at the Springs Preserve Facility, 309 S. Valley View BLVD, Las Vegas, Nevada. This Exhibit, to be located in the main entry hallway, will be comprised of three large-sized display cases (as used in the current Plaza Casino Exhibit) that will be filled with Nevada-only casino collectibles; ashtrays, matchbooks/covers and playing cards. It is anticipated that the Exhibit will debut on, or about, March 1st, 2018. The Exhibit is planned to run through September 2018, but may be extended by mutual agreement.
We must thank the tireless and continuous efforts of the Club’s President, Jerry Vergatos for making happen. We also thank Club Hall of Famer, Life Member and Co-Historian, Carey Burke, for providing access to the Nevada State Museum. Jim Follis, MoGH Board member, Exhibit Director, will be responsible for the setup of the Exhibit.
The MoGH has items on hand to initially stock the Exhibit, in Phase 1. Phase 2 of the Exhibit is already planned, that will include items from the five casinos featured in the Oceans 11 movie, released in 1960, – Flamingo, Riviera, Sahara, Desert Inn, and Sands. Phase 2 details will be announced later. Loans or donations, of items relating to those five casinos, from Club members, will be sought.
This Exhibit furthers the MoGH’s efforts to reach out to the public and make our hobby better known. However, this comes at an expense to the MoGH and we encourage and request, Club members (and others), to assist the MoGH in the acquisition of the materials needed to set up this Exhibit. Please contact the MoGH’s Board President, Charles Kaplan, to find out how you can help.
The MoGH specifically expresses our gratitude for a past donation, earmarked for the acquisition of a new display case, by the Southern Nevada Casino Collectibles Club (SNCCC). That donation will be used to acquire one of the five display cases needed for this new Exhibit. A plaque will be mounted on the display case to denote SNCCC’s generosity.
