Many stories about Martin involve bars!

He was killed in a single-car accident. Bill Reedy, who owned Reedy's Saloon near Tiger Stadium, was convicted of drunk driving (Martin was a passenger). Reedy admitted his involvement, but then retracted during trial, saying Martin was driving and he initially lied to protect Martin's "image."

I used to go with my wife to Reedy's bar quite often (for burgers). It was a shrine to baseball, with a lot of memorabilia involving Ted Williams, as well as the trio of Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle and Billy Martin.
