I loved his character, especially on the Andy Griffith Show. The episode where he captures escapees by dropping a box of lightbulbs is one of my favorites.

I got goosebumps when he sang - especially the Gomer Pyle episode where he went to Washington DC to perform (at the height of the antiwar movement - take that, protesters!)
