OK this is kind of chip related. Two weeks ago I went to an estate sale and opened a box to find a pack of slot cards inside. First time in like forever that I found something casino related at a sale. Then this week I am at a sale and found the 5000 from Venice shown. The funny thing is where I found it. On top of a closet shelf there was a huge Stetson hat box. There was no hat in the box but this chip was! Just unreal!
So yesterday I find out about a privately run estate sale and the description starts...Mom has dementia and bought lots of stuff... One of the things listed was jewelry. This was the type of sale that could be solid gold or a total bust. Since I buy all sorts of household stuff at these sales I was hoping to find some goodies if I went. Problem is it was 35 minutes by freeway from our house and it being November it was the only sale in the area. Just didn't know if I should waste the time going but had a feeling that it could be a good one. So I get up early (it started at 7) and when I get there a guy is at a table picking out jewelry as fast as he can. I join him and find 4 or five silver items that are really cheap. But no huge hit. I finally asked if they had any better items and they said they had lots but didn't have time to go thru it all and were going to take it to a jeweler. I said I would be able to give them an idea as to what the items were worth. They agreed and I spent the next 1 1/2 hours wading thru 2 large boxes of jewelry. Ninety percent was just over priced costume jewelry but the other 10% was 14K gold or silver. So I made piles of the stuff I was interested in and put the rest in the for sale pile. When I was done I had a shoebox full and I told the guy we should go inside to discuss the stuff. I made him a reasonable offer and he countered and only came down a little so I paid real money for this stuff. I even had to run to the ATM to get some more money - and that never happens! So what did I get? There is 65 grams of 14K gold and over 300 grams of silver. Your math assignment for today is to figure out what it is all worth.
The top half of the scan is the gold the rest is silver. What a haul.
