I am not familiar with these in particular but it was not uncommon for a token supplier to strike a token in other metals for execs at the casino. Howdy's Platinum Collection auction had a Harvey's token struck in platinum I believe. It was presented to Harvey Gross as I recall. Or was it a Harrah's token presented to Bill Harrah? It been a long time and now I'm not sure. Maybe Howdy Herz will reply with the answer.

I doubt any of the gold or platinum strikes were ever made for play. That's why the mintages are so small.

Remember, precious metals are precious because they are always scarce. The only reason gold and silver bullion are priced higher now is because the US$ has been debased as a currency. Remember when the USA had circulating gold coins? And there was paper currency that promised to pay the holder in gold or silver if he asked?
