I had some German-made plastic die-cuts which also have some very thin inlays and resemble what you just explained.

Reason why I asked if they might have been pigment-filled is because I have seen some thru the years where the pigment had disloged in sections and then crumbled.

That would be an "overlay" and not an "inlay" ~~~
