I know of no job where you can be on the job, in uniform and at your employers place of business and be free to say or demonstrate what you want. You would at least be disciplined and maybe even fired. The owners and the NFL could have nipped this in the bud by doing just this with Kaepernick. The tail is wagging the dog.
