I was so thrilled to be able to purchase the phone booth from you! My wife and I had saved for a trip to Europe for our 10th wedding anniversary, but life logistics prevented us from booking it. Instead we decided to have a phone booth restored and imported from England (a logistics nightmare in itself). Right as I was going to pay the security deposit to start the restoration, I found yours! What a pleasure and a treasure to be able to combine my fondness for iconic British history with wonderful Las Vegas history into one piece!
Since being installed, Sir Owen, the Little Free Library (I of course had to name and anthropomorphize him ) has been such an enjoyable and rewarding labor of love. The neighborhood kids like to visit him on their way to and from school (there's free books, but the free bookmarks, pencils, and bowl of candy may also help ); he is on the walking route of several morning dog walkers (the container of dog treats might help that); and apparently (if the sticky-note messages that patrons can leave on his windows can be believed) he has been a meet-up place/make-out point for a couple of local teenagers .
Last year we added M the Post Box (his anthropomorphized post box companion) who adds a maternal touch with free postcards and a letter drop for Santa last Christmas. They've been featured on local TV several times, have friends from all over the world on Instagram, were interviewed for the Postcrossing Blog, and have led to more friendly conversations with my neighbors since we put them in than I had in the years we've lived here previously.
Of course, in the time since I've also spent some time researching some of Sir Owen's Lady Luck past, which I've been lucky enough to find and document on some old "present this coupon for a free picture" postcards:
Which, of course, has led to another collecting interest: Lady Luck coupon books!
In all, it's definitely the best hobby purchase I've ever made, and have you to thank for it . I definitely owe you one!
Thanks for letting me share .
