I use a top of the line Whites metal detector. I have been detecting for over 50 years now and used to belong to several metal detecting clubs. Also did professional hunts back in the1980's - that is where I got a lot of the silver coins I am selling at the antique mall. You would pay an entry fee and they would have multiple hunts where they buried silver coins. You keep what you dig. These days the only place I detect is on the beach - either here or when I travel to other countries. It is a lot of fun, and good excercise, but was way better in the 1970's when all of the lost gold and silver could be found in school yards, parks, beaches, etc. These days I am lucky to find enough coins to pay for the batteries I use. But the fun is in the hunt you just never know what the next signal will give you. Back in the 1980's our club got to detect a parks swimming hole. I was 20 feet away from a fellow member who found a 1/2 ct. diamond ring.
