Kind of like the difference between rarity of a chip and value of a chip. A total eclipse in your neighborhood is very rare but if you've seen one before, another one ceases to have much value. I viewed the 1979 eclipse from California and was not motivated to drive even a few miles to enter the totality band for this one... and you can wait 27 years and see another one in USA (in Montana anyway).
