MY MIAMI MEMORIES, OLD DOWNTOWN

AS A KID GROWING UP IN MIAMI BEACH ... A BIG OUTING ON SATURDAY WAS TO TAKE THE MIAMI BEACH MTA BUS FOR 10c TO FLAGER ST. DOWNTOWN MIAMI. WITH MY $1 ALLOWANCE AND NEWSPAPER MONEY I WOULD GO SHOPPING AT THE WOOLWORTH, KRESS, W.T. GRANTS, MC CRORYS ALL 5 & 10 STORES. (see postcard) ... AND BUY WOODEN AIRPLANE GLIDERS ... MODELS CARS, LEAD SOILDERS ETC. THE BEST PART WAS WALKING THE BUSTLING STREETS AND PEOPLE WATCHING ... MIAMI HAD PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE ISLANDS AND SOUTH AMERICA ... IN THE WINTER THE SNOWBIRDS WOULD TAKE OVER. WE USED TO GET IN TROUBLE WITH THE BUS DRIVER FOR SITTING IN THE BACK OF THE BUS ... NEGROS ONLY WAS THE LAW OF THE DAY ... ANYWAY MY 1ST. MIAMI DOLPHIN GAME WAS ONLY $2 TO SIT IN THE END ZONE ... 7-11 GAVE YOU A DOLLAR OFF COUPON WITH AN ICE CREAM CUP LID ... I REMEMBER SMALL SLOT MACHINES IN SOME CAFES & BARS ... YOU COULD SEE THEM PLAYING AS YOU WALKED BY .... YOUR COMMENT AND POSTS ARE WELCOMED .... THANKS FOR READING ... RICH BURGEL
