Emilio,
First, thanks for your observations and recommendations. My comments are not directed to you Emilio, but are meant for all collectors.
From my perspective the problem is not what to do, we have lots a great ideas from lots of collectors, the problem is: Who is going to get it done? I am sure that it does seem that there is an "inner circle" of a few collectors who seem to be involved in getting everything done, but that is because they are the ones who volunteer their time and skills to do it. If everyone who made suggestions to improve the club actually volunteered to get it done, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Convention activities were curtailed this year, why?, because of lack of volunteers.
The volunteers who run this club and this hobby give so much of their time and effort and get little in return except for the satisfaction of a job well done and an occasional Thank You. I am simply amazed that most collectors have the expectation that things will be just be done for them. If you are unwilling to do the work, why would you expect someone else to do it? Club volunteers are no different from anyone else, everyone can volunteer in some capacity, yet so few actually do. Just like everyone else, volunteers have jobs and family and other responsibilities, but they make the time to help the Club and the membership. We talk about the "aging population" of our membership. That should mean that we have a lot of retirees in our membership with lots of time to volunteer, but sadly few do.
In short, don't be an arm chair quarterback. Any solution requires not just a suggestion, but also needs the people to get it done, and those who make the suggestion should be the ones to volunteer to get it done.
