All I have is fond memories - - I attended college on Pt Loma and ate there often 1965-1967. It was great - the prime rib actually was quite good. They had a big neon sign "all you can eat!'
It was $3.49 for dinner initially, then increased to $3.99, I believe. A lot for a college student so I only could afford it about twice a month.Non-alcoholic drinks were included. Back then, you could get a sirloin steak dinner at Sizzler for $1.29 or a steak sandwich for 69 cents!
Had a friend barred for eating too much. A small guy named Lee Ambrose ate about a dozen plates of meat one night. The manager said he was watching and Lee ate it all ...he said the sign reads "all you can eat" so Lee could have as much as he wanted that night ... but another sign reserved the right to refuse service and Lee could not return. A bummer. Lee was PO'ed and had 2 more plates!
The gal who wielded the knife on the prime rib was Madelyn. She sure could cut the sanding rib roast. First cut was thicker, then about half as much thereafter. After putting the meat on your plate she wanted (probably was instructed) to dump a bunch of mashed potatoes & gravy on your plate. After my first plate I always said "no potatoes please" before she could load me up.
The first plate was larger than the rest.
The restaurant was well done - - tablecloths and burgundy booths.
I learned buffet early from my Dad - we were at the Thunderbird in LV circa 1957 and went to the "chuck-wagon" buffet. I started to load-up on salad and my (Armenian) father said "schmuck - - why eat grass when you could be eating prime rib!"
