Helldorado is a western themed carnival with parades and later, a rodeo. Started in 1934, stopped for a few years in the 21st century and resumed recently. More recently, the period during which the Elks conduct the festival every year is called "Helldorado Days".
Kangaroo Court was held on Fremont Street. If a visitor was found there not dressed like a cowboy (western-shirt, cowboy hat and boots, etc.) he was sentenced to "jail" in a cage on the Street. He could free himself by paying a fine to the Elks Club to support their charitable activities. I can't remember whether the Kengaroo Court badge was worn by arrested tourists or by the Deputies who jailed them.
I collect the metal pin-back badges worn during the event. Here are a few of my duplicates if you'd like to add some to your collection.
I can send your choice of a badge for $7. Postage is $3 for any number of badges.
