Hi Everyone,
Who knew you could get so busy being retired? When I last wrote you all we had just left Cortez Colorado and were on our way to Durango. On the way to Durango we passed the World Folk Art Statues. These are statues created by a couple and they place them in the yard. We are not certain what the couple does with the statues since they didn’t really have a store and when we pulled in and there was a sign that said, tips appreciated. No one came out, but based on the app, they just want to share the art with the world. We also passed more large arrows. I made a comment to my sister-in-law regarding the large arrows and who knew we would see more. As you will recall this is the second time we have gotten photos of large arrows. Her response was “OMG Ger, they are everywhere.”
We spent several day with Ted and Keefer and much to our delight my nephew and his family were there at the same time. The cabin is in Pagosa Springs. The area is magnificent. They have just short of 40 acres and lease out some of the acreage to cows. Imagine my surprise waking up in the morning looking outside and seeing cows within 20 feet of me. Being the animal person that I am, it is a unique experience. While we were in Pagosa Springs it seems the altitude and everything we have been doing got the best of Fred. I ended up taking him to the emergency room in Pagosa Springs. Fortunately we got to the ER early and they were able to treat him and sent him home that morning. I will say it was a unique experience, the ER doctor looked like a Grizzly Adams kind of guy with a camo shirt. Fred and I both felt he could have a gun in his car and was just waiting to get off work to go hunting.
While Fred did not feel great on the first day we got to Pagosa Springs he did feel better to go to Pat Parelli’s on Wednesday evening. Parelli’s is a world class equestrian training center and he and some of the trainers do a show on Wednesday evenings along with a barbecue. Pat is kind of like a horse whisperer. We had fun and our great nephews had a blast.
We left Pagosa Springs on our way to Burlington Colorado. We knew we were going to be taking on a long day. It was about a 400 mile trek over Wolf Creek Pass. We were already about 7000 feet above sea level only to go a little over 10,000 feet. Fortunately Wal-Mart sells oxygen in a can. No lie! According to the pharmacist at Wal-Mart it is great for altitude issues as well as a hangover.
Today we are on our way through Kansas. Not sure what we will encounter, but I will try to be timelier with communication.
Love to all
