Since you’ve posted two of my New York State harvest stories, I thought I’d tell you of my most recent.
This was two months ago (February, 2017). February is not the greatest time to go to upstate New York but there was a very sad reason for going. For what it’s worth, a couple of weeks after the trip, where I was going got upwards of 30” of heavy wet snow, not the light powdery lake effect snow that many of us are familiar with.
There are three casinos that opened in New York in January and February of 2017: Rivers in Schenectedy, Del Lago in Waterloo, and Tioga Downs in Nichols. Schenectady is right on the way to where I was going so that was no big deal except it’s in the city of Schenectady. The other two are out of the way but, since I was going the day before I had to be where I was going, I had plenty of time. Good news also is that I drive a hybrid so I didn’t particularly care about the excess mileage.
I gathered all the chips I wanted but there are a couple of funny stories.
At one of them, the dealer asked the pit boss who said I couldn’t just buy chips without playing. I explained that I’m a collector and I showed him my CCGTCC membership card. He then let me buy the couple of chips but I asked what the problem was since I/we do this all the time. The explanation was the fear of money laundering! We all had a good laugh at the realization that I wasn’t really laundering the less than $20.00 I put up.
At the other two, the dealers also asked the pit bosses because they didn’t know if they could just sell me chips. Nothing to do with money laundering, it was just that they had not had the request before (remember the casinos had only been open a month or two, if that). The pit bosses said no problem.
I also stopped at Turning Stone to make my annual plea to buy a couple of their poker room drop chips. These had not been used for years and had just been sitting in the vault, but the floor and cage have steadfastly refused to let them out over the years. This time, however, they were using them again so I thought (YEAH!) maybe their policy had changed. Unfortunately that was not the case despite my pleading, begging, groveling!
So, while the reason for the February trip to upstate New York was sad, I did get all the chips I wanted from the new casinos. Next trip I hope to get further west to the several Seneca casinos in search of the handful of chips I’m missing from them.

ELLIS ISLAND IS AN OFF THE STRIP CASINO. SMALL AND CONNECTED TO A MOTEL, I CAN NOT RECALL THE NAME OF THE MOTEL AT THIS TIME. SHORTLY AFTER THE 2012 CHIP OF THE YEAR (IN 2013) WAS AWARDED TO ELLIS ISLAND, NANCY AND I TOOK A LITTLE SIDE TRIP OVER TO CHECK THIS CASINO OUT. WE HAD HEARD THEIR BARBEQUE RIBS WERE TO DIE FOR.
WHEN WE GOT THERE, NOTICING THAT THE CASINO WAS VERY SMALL AND EVERYONE IN IT KNEW WHAT EVERYONE ELSE WAS DOING, WHILE THEY WERE DOING IT. VERY INTIMATE INDEED. I SAUNTERED UP TO THE CASHIER, AND ASKED ABOUT THE 2012 4TH OF JULY CHIP, SHE SAID YEAH WE GOT THEM, BUT YOU STAND A BETTER CHANCE OF FINDING THEM ON THE FLOOR, MEANING THE BLACK JACK TABLES, CRAPS OR ROULETTE TABLE.
SO I TOOK A DEEP BREATH AND ASKED THE CRAPS STICKMAN AND DEALER. WELL THEY SEEMED LIKE SOME FUN GUYS AND WE KIDDED AROUND A BIT AND THEN THEY SAID WHICH ONE WAS THAT AND WE THEN IDENTIFIED IT, AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT; WE HAD THE PIT BOSS, THE ROULETTE DEALER, AND THE ONLY BLACK JACK DEALER GOING THROUGH THEIR RACKS VERY CAREFULLY, MAKING SURE THAT EYE IN THE SKY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING; LOOKING FOR THE “CHIP”. I AM SURE THE PIT BOSS CALLED UP STAIRS TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON, ANY WAY WE WHEN WE LEFT WE HAD SOME WHERE BETWEEN 10 AND 15 OF THOSE VERY COOL CHIPS. AND YES, I DID TIP THEM ALL A LITTLE BIT, NOT A LOT BECAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY OF THEM LOOKING AND HELPING. I DID NOT TIP THE CASHIER, ‘CUZ SHE WAS ABOVE IT ALL…THE ANSWER TO; DID I GET ENOUGH, IS YES, AND I STILL HAVE SOME IF ANY ONE NEEDS A 2012 COTY.
WE RAN OUT OF TIME, NEVER DID GET ANY OF THOSE DELICIOUS RIBS…REGGIE

I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT IN SHARING THESE STORIES, THERE MIGHT BE A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT YOU MAY NOT OF THOUGHT ABOUT WHILE YOU WERE OUT HARVESTING.
ALL OF THE STORIES CAN NOT BE STELLAR STORIES, AND THEY WILL RANGE FROM “HO-HUM” TO “R U KIDDIN’ ME”. I’M SURE SOME OF YOU WILL FIND SOME OF THEM SLIGHTLY AMUSING AND ENTERTAINING.
SOME OF THE REASONS THAT I ENJOYED HARVESTING IS THE LOCATIONS AND THE GEOGRAPHY. BUT, MOST OF ALL I LOVED THE HISTORY OF THE AREAS I HAD TO GO TO IN FINDING THE CHIPS.
MY TRAVELS HAVE TAKEN ME THROUGH ALL OF THE LOWER 48 STATES. I ALSO TRAVELED TO MANY PROVINCES IN CANADA, MANY OF THE ISLANDS IN THE CARIBBEAN AND PARTS OF EUROPE.
PLEASE KNOW, THAT IN WRITING THESE STORIES; IT GIVES ME GREAT PLEASURE TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCES HARVESTING. NOW-A-DAYS MOST OF MY TRAVELING IS DONE BY PLANE OR BOAT.

MANY YEARS AGO I STARTED MY POSTING, BY POSTING “A SET OF THE DAY” I THINK I HAD ABOUT 300-400 SETS ALL TOGETHER. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN BACK THEN. AND WHEN I STARTED DOING “A PAGE A DAY” I INCLUDED BETTER SETS AS A CATEGORY.
BUT NOW; RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.

I PLAN ON CUTTING THE STATES DOWN TO ABOUT SEVEN + OR -; PLUS, MY SPECIAL COLLECTION (CHIPS WITH CARDS ON THEM) AND CANADA. I HAVE NOT DECIDED WHAT TO DO ABOUT MY WET CHIPS, I LIKE THEM AND ENJOY CRUISING SO, THEY MAY BE A KEEPER.

I WILL MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT WHEN I BREAK UP ANY STATE AND ADD IT TO THE POD. ANOTHER MANNER OF MARKETING MAY BE BY CASINO. I MAY OFFER COMPLETE OR INCOMPLETE GROUPS/SETS FROM INDIVIDUAL CASINOS. ALSO, I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT MERGING THE SMALLER STATES INTO THE POD PAGES; THAT SEEMS TO BE THE EASIEST, THIS WILL HAPPEN AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN FEATURED ON THE CB AND THE POD SEVERAL TIMES.
A WORD ON WHAT APPEARS TO BE DUPLICATES ON THE PAGES. THESE ARE UV OR MOLD VARIATIONS. I AM NOT GOING TO PULL THESE OUT AT THIS TIME. SHOULD THIS BECOME A NEGOTIATING FACTOR AND THE BUYER ONLY WANTS JUST ONE CHIP AND THE UV’S AND MOLDS MATTER NOT, THEN I WILL REMOVE THEM AND ADJUST THE PRICE ACCORDINGLY.
Misc. Islands P1 - 13 Total - $59
Starting 2016, I have listed everything I have (all of my excel inventory +) on the collection library trader/for sale. Of course, many of you did not know that my previous listings were items I had more than one of. Now, everything; even the ones I only have 1 (one) of will be listed. Please know; none of these are from my personal collection. One more important point while searching for chips on my CL site; there are two settings for viewing my chips. One is a simply a long, long list of pictures and descriptions. Two is by Country/City/State/Casino alphabetical. You may request to change this at any time. And when you do I will leave it on that setting for a couple of days, or whatever you request within reason, before I change to help another chipper’s request.

This will cause more work for me, and along with that will be the possibility of more errors, and chances for items to slip through the cracks. So, I apologize in advance for the times I do not clear off a listing after it has been sold. Also, on the other side of coin, there will be times I will find a very nice item that I had forgot to put on the “Collection Library” when I first got it. And now I am listing it just when you started looking for it.
*On the subject of trading, please know: When you spot something on my CL Trader/For Sale list that you really want, I need to get something that I can put into my collection, also; or it will be a cash sale. Because, to take in trade something I will in turn have to sell, (that is already in my collection) requires me to work twice as hard to complete the original transaction.
The total amount of chips listed on this site as traders and for sale are approximately 4500. This of course will fluctuate up and down, however this number should afford most collectors looking for a piece to put in their collection at least an opportunity to see a few chips not often offered.
