That published fight destinations , name of airline, time leaving from So Cal that were over often over booked,they would ask for volunteers. I always would check in a little early, and put my name on the list, hopefully first to be called. Worked about 40% on the time. It was great way to earn free flights, maybe just take a later flight, or stay in a nice airport hotel with free meals. Of course this only works if you are not on a tight schedule.
