I collect because I like casino chips, not because it's some financial market. I started collecting because I liked collecting casino chips, not as an investment. I've cut back, but still collect postcards, Elko, and Wisconsin.
I joined the club because the newsletter (now a fine magazine) provided interesting articles and insight. I learned from people who knew much more than I ever will and appreciated the club and the sharing.
I can't understand how more members and more interest could ever harm the club. No I've never been to the convention, I work the majority of the warm months, earning for the Winter. I can't take off. I sure wish I could - year after year!
Yes, there has been a decrease in new members and some of the old have moved on. Casinos were hot in the entertainment market, Vegas was booming. Collecting for a hobby made sense and interest was higher. Now things have leveled off and here we are. I still enjoy collecting for my own interest and entertainment.
Hey old timers, how's Reno now, compared to the 90s? The casinos are now cash checking places, cigarette and liquor stores. Some that were off that downtown area are just vacant buildings. I used to spend a whole day and night walking from place to place in Reno. Now they are gone.
I see no reason that the club and collecting shouldn't be a reflection of the casino market as a whole. Las Vegas is still tops. I hope it always will be. But times change and the "good old days" are history.
I'm still having fun and enjoying what I love collecting. There are many reasons why anyone new or interested should be a member, and benefit from the groups knowledge. First off would be to learn this isn't some kind of investment club or financial market. It's a hobby!
