Hi Ron:

While there are quite a few rare books in that lot, all have been cut or "bobtailed." They cut off the striker and matches. I think that was done more frequently in older collections. Nowadays, it seems to be more common to remove the staple and take out the matches leaving the whole book in tact, minus the matches. That may have been what kept the price to only a couple of dollars per cover.
