Brenda and I had a similar experience several years ago flying American Airlines out of Newark to Las Vegas with a change of planes in Chicago. Upon hearing the overbooked announcement when we got to Chicago, we volunteered our seats and each of us received an $400 voucher and seats on the next flight out; which was also overbooked, and we again volunteered. We each received another $400 voucher and boarding passage on the red eye last flight out of Chicago to Las Vegas. Guess what, that flight too was overbooked and we again volunteered and received another $400 voucher each, plus overnight hotel accommodations in Chicago, a meal credit at the hotel and a toiletries package, plus first class boarding passes on the first flight out to Vegas the next morning. We arrived in Las Vegas a day later than planned, but $2400 ahead in future travel vouchers before we landed at McCarran Airport. What a country!
