And I'm talking about the settlement. The ABC legal analyst on Nightline thinks the guy has a case and will sue both United and the police.
That's how to get rich today. Throw a tantrum like a 2-year-old on an airplane instead of acting like an adult, like the other three people who had to involuntarily leave that flight did.
United (nor any other) Airlines should not overbook flights at the level they do. I've literally been on hundreds of flights and have taken voluntary bumps because the airlines made it worth it. I haven't been on a flight where they didn't get enough volunteers to be bumped, so that can't happen very often. This particular case looks like overbooking into an airport that doesn't have much traffic - there weren't other flights available later on the same day, and that's where they messed up. But, they did offer rebooking a flight for the next day plus $200 for a hotel and food for the night to anyone who volunteered to be bumped.
All of that said, the guy not only had to be dragged off the plane by the police, he got loose and ran back onto the plane after being dragged off it! That is not excusable behavior under any circumstances. He absolutely had a right to be PO'd at being bumped. He dealt with it like a child and is lucky he's not in jail for his actions!
