There are a lot of things that make this auction tough to think about. the price number one but, beyond that there are many factors in play.
1- They may well be from Newport, Ky but, who can be 100% sure.
2- A box of them makes them less than rare in the whole scheme of things. 25 chips might well satisfy the entire market.
3- Value is tricky because there are "At Least" a hundred out there. Could be more. I'd pay $20 for one just because I have a feeling it might be a N Ky chip.
I can understand the seller wanting to sell all or none. If he sold a couple to people and heaven forbid sell two to the same person, than no doubt one would show up on Ebay and totally kill his market. That's a certainty of what would happen.
A couple years ago Larry Trapp was able to get a quantity of $50 Lookout House chips that the collecting community had not seen before. He paid way too much for them IMO. We tried to help him get some of his money back by asking collectors we knew who were genuinely interested in getting a chip for their collections, to be able to buy one . We tried to be certain that they were for their collections only. It was important that no one got more than one chip. If just one showed up on Ebay Larry's future market would be significantly diminished. All of that doesn't matter no since Larry had all of those chips confiscated by police and they were held for a ruling as to whether he chips had been originally stolen. Bottom line is he didn't get the chips back, nor did he get his money back. It appears the cops were buddy buddy with the original owner and the guys that sold the chips to Larry. I never trusted any of the local cops around there anyway. Now I have good reason.
